My Story

I Get It — Because I Was You


I worked for a statewide governmental association for 31 years.

For more years than I want to admit… I thought about leaving.
But I was a single mom raising two boys.
College was coming.
So I stayed…

For the pension.
For the salary.
For the predictable benefits.
For them.

​

I liked my job. I liked the people. I was good at it-but I wasn't growing anymore.
Senior staff. Department manager.

Professional and loyal as they come.

But I was micromanaged, brushed off and dismissed.
Every time I had a new idea, it was:

  • Ignored,

  • Delayed, or

  • Quietly shut down.

Even after decades of proving myself,
I had very little control over my future.

When I retired at 57, I finally did what I always wanted to do:
I started my own business.

I finally took control of my future.

Suddenly, life felt new. Exciting. Challenging.
